UK development finance institution and impact investor British International Investment (BII) has appointed Barclays’ Global Head of Sustainable Finance, Daniel Hanna, as Non-executive Director to its board. Hanna will also sit on BII’s Development Impact Committee. He joined Barclays in November 2022, and is part of the bank’s investment committee on its sustainable impact capital programme, which plans to invest £500 million (US$624.56 million) in climate technology companies. Hanna previously spent more than 19 years at Standard Chartered Bank, including more than four as global head of sustainable finance. At Standard Chartered, he established a sustainable finance team which has now grown to 100 people. This team mobilised more than US$22 billion in green and transition finance in 2021 – principally in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. “I am delighted that Daniel is joining BII’s board. He brings impressive, and hugely valuable, experience in climate and sustainable finance,” said Diana Layfield, Chair at the BII. “He will play a key role in helping [us] build upon our progress as a leader in development and climate finance.” BII invests to support the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office’s Clean Green Initiative and to create productive, sustainable, and inclusive economies in eligible markets.
