Jon Fuller has been appointed as the first UK Director of Breakthrough Energy, founded by Bill Gates in 2015. The company aims to accelerate the clean energy transition through the support of research and development, and invests in companies that “turn ideas into clean technologies”. Fuller has more than two decades’ experience leading on infrastructure, technology and energy policy. He most recently led the energy team at HM Treasury from 2020, with responsibility for spending control for the UK government’s Energy and Net Zero Department. Fuller also spent three years as UK director of policy and government relations for Hewlett Packard, as well as several years at PwC Corporate Finance. “As a leader in developing and scaling the critical solutions we need to reach net-zero emissions, Breakthrough Energy stands ready to help catalyse the UK’s contribution to a cleaner planet,” said Fuller. “I’m greatly looking forward to leading these efforts and working closely in partnership with all participants to seize this opportunity to drive investment, growth and productivity, which will underpin the energy transition.”
