Independent sustainability standards organisation the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) has named a new chair and vice-chair of its supervisory board. Jessica Fries, Chief Executive of Accounting for Sustainability, has been appointed as the board’s new chair and will take over the role from the outgoing Jack Ehnes on 1 January 2024. Fries has spent two years as the board’s Vice-Chair. Ehnes, a former CEO of CalSTRS, is stepping down after five years on the Supervisory Board, including two as Chair. The initiative has also selected current board member Bola Adeeko, Director of Special Projects at Flour Mills of Nigeria, as its new vice-chair. The supervisory board is the governance body responsible for the organisation’s long-term priorities and strategy. Under a two-tier structure, the supervisory board oversees and advises GRI’s management board, which leads on operational policy and management. Appointments to the board are voluntary with members serve a term of three years which can be renewed. Departing Chair Jack Ehnes said: “by ensuring good governance and effective oversight, we have an essential role in supporting GRI to achieve its purpose and mission. Looking forward I am very confident that, under Jessica and Bola’s astute leadership, the Supervisory Board will continue to contribute to the growing relevance of GRI in the years to come.”
