French multinational utility company ENGIE has acquired a 51% stake in Spain’s Goya onshore wind farm project from Mirova – Natixis Investment Managers’ sustainable investing affiliate. The project comprises seven wind farms in Spain’s north-eastern province of Zaragoza, which have been operational since 2020 and have a total power capacity of 194 megawatts (MW). The acquisition sees ENGIE increase its stake from 15% to 66% as it seeks to meet its objective of promoting growth in the Spanish market through renewable energies. The group already operates and manages an installed renewable capacity of 1,700MW in the country, including 1,500MW in wind. “With the acquisition of the stake held until now by Mirova, ENGIE increases its ambition and commitment to actively contribute to the construction of a future in which energy is cleaner, more sustainable and more affordable for all,” said Loreto Ordóñez, CEO of ENGIE in Spain. For Mirova, the transaction represents the last exit of its Eurofideme 3 fund, which will reach end-of-life this year. In October 2023, the firm launched Mirova Energy Transition 6 – its sixth strategy vehicle dedicated to energy transition infrastructure, for which it aims to raise up to €2 billion (US$2.2 billion) in funding.
