Sustainability certification platform Planet Mark and net zero portal UK Business Climate Hub have co-launched the UK Net Zero Business Census – an annual benchmark measuring private sector contributions to the UK’s 2050 net zero target. The census will occur every year over a limited period, and this year will run until the end of the London Climate Action Week on 30 June. It will establish the proportion of UK businesses with net zero targets and of those measuring their carbon footprint, and will track the actions they’ve taken to reduce it. It will also provide a regional, sector and business size breakdown of the data, providing insights to policymakers, investors and business leaders into the UK’s net zero journey, with hopes to inspire further action. “Through working with so many like-minded partners, we will be able to reach thousands of businesses across the country to understand the commitments and actions they are taking to drive positive change for society, business and nature,” said Planet Mark’s Director of Policy and Partnerships, Andrew Griffiths. “This is the most ambitious survey ever undertaken on the state of UK business’ progress to achieving net zero. We hope the results can inform the policy and investment decisions needed to secure business success as we transition to net zero by 2050”. The census is open to UK-based businesses of any size and industry and already counts 36 partners, including: the Confederation of British Industry (CBI); British Chambers of Commerce; Barclays; HSBC; Lloyds Bank; National Grid; NatWest; Climate Action; SME Climate Hub; Octopus Energy; Bankers for Net Zero and the British Standards Institutions.
